AnNeiXi® – the first generic new compound antihypertensive in China is launched
(Hong Kong, 17 March 2008) Dawnrays Pharmaceutical (Holdings) Limited (“Dawnrays Pharma” or the “Group”, stock code: 2348) announced that AnNeiXi®, the first generic new compound antihypertensive in China, has been commercially launched in market.
The successful development of AnNeiXi® not only further strengthens Dawnrays Pharma’s antihypertensive product line but also enhances the overall value of the Group’s system specific medicine product line. At present, there are approximately 200 million people potentially suffering from hypertension-related conditions in the PRC. The estimated market size for antihypertensives is approximately RMB 12 billion with an annual growth of 18%. It expects sales of AnNeiXi® in future to reach 6 million to 8 million boxes a year and will bring another momentum for the Group’s profit growth.
AnNeiXi® is a new compound angiotensin II receptor blocker (abbreviated as “ARB”, a fixed-dose compound preparation combining Losartan and Hydrochorothiazide). With its synergistic effect in reducing blood pressure, this compound preparation demonstrates superior efficacy and more rapid onset of action to any currently available single-drugs for such use. 19 research results on AnNeiXi® for its antihypertensive effect contributed to the meta-analysis, which revealed 87.2% of patients using AnNeiXi® continuously for 4 weeks could bring the blood pressure to normal level. The rate increases to 88.1% for patients taking AnNeiXi® continuously for 8 weeks. Moreover, Losartan from the fixed compound is also the only ARB drugs that can significantly reduce blood uric acid, and hence counter the adverse effects of Diuretics on blood uric acid when they are used together. Other ARB drugs have not such a positive effect.
Dawnrays Pharma plans to develop and launch series of new pharmaceutical products over the next few years, such as blood-lipid lowering drug Rosuvastatin, anti-allergic drug Cetirize-pseudoephedrine, urinary system drug Potassium Citrate Sustained-release tablets, antiviral drug Valaciclovir Hydrochloride, Ceftibuten Capsules and other antibiotic products, etc. The new products will continuously enhance Dawnrays Pharma’s leading position in various drug categories in the pharmaceutical industry and underpin the sustainable growth of the Group.
